We survive and move on.
I was lucky in that it was my first offense for anything and they could only prove cultivation. I got 4 years all suspended but 6 months and 2 years probation. When I was arrested I was held on $10,000 bail. This is bit ridiculous for growing pot and no other charges ever made against me. Others in my life have not been so lucky. The system stinks. This is a non-crime law and I am no criminal. I am a felon. Living in a country that espouses personal freedom, I find it ironic that this government collects taxes on tobacco products, alcohol and a plethora of pharmaceuticals and dares to enforce marijuana laws. This all seems rather backwards to me until I realize that the real truth is that our government as a whole does not care about its individual citizens. It is individual officials looking to line their pockets and remain in power. The USA is in fact being lied to and it's sad how many people actually believe the lies being peddled as fact. I will provide links to sites where much research has been done. I do not pretend to know it all, but I can smell a rat, if you'll pardon the pun.
There are states, like the one I live in, (Maine) that have voted to legalize marijuana for medical purposes. The mighty federal government has seen fit to be sure our vote does not count. So much for democracy! There are many other facets of life in the US that echo the same as with the marijuana issues. If we could all somehow unite we could overcome this evil. Propaganda and selfishness seems to crowd out tolerance and understanding when it is not an issue at your own doorstep. (July 2009 update: Since This page was started Don Christen and Maine Vocals have had some victories. I will try to keep you updated.)
There is also the problem with the demonization of the plant for hemp purposes. We have many hemp products in this country, but the hemp is grown in other countries and imported. What a sad state of affairs this is. Our struggling farmers could use an extra cash crop and our environment would benefit from the better use of recourses.
